In 1972, the desire to set up on my own crossed my mind and I began creating arranged rums. Ambitious and innovative, I opened a local bar and restaurant, “CHEZ Ginette”, which over the years has become a must on the island. I invented my first arranged punch, “Le punch coco”. This cocktail made with coconut and white agricultural rum made me a household name in St Barths… The concept of my restaurant was to have my creations tasted and sold directly to my loyal and visiting customers such as Coluchi (my husband’s friend), Gautier, Jean Marie Rivière, Noah, Gotainer, Becaud, Charlelie Couture, Claude Zidi and Charles Dumont. In the 90s, I wanted to diversify by inventing different rhums arrangés, so I innovated with flowers like red hibiscus and aromatic herbs like thyme. In the 2000s, I added sweets like chocolate cookies, speculoos and tiramisu to my range of rhums arrangés to surprise your taste buds. Having started out with three francs six cents, today my small business boasts over a hundred varieties of homemade punches, ranging from exotic fruits and citrus to peels, agaves, sweets, nuts and, of course, the fruits of St. Barth’s. Being environmentally conscious, I try to recycle my bottles as much as possible, by collecting fruit juice bottles that I reuse.
